Three North Coast goals to one in the third quarter cut the Marlins’ lead at three quarter-time, setting up a tense finish.

There were then goals galore in the fourth term, Melville scoring first through Chloe Nella but then Phoenix striking back, courtesy of Jess Reynolds.

The next two goals went the way of the home side, settling the Marlins who maintained their advantage to end up winning by four goals.

In the men’s match up, the Dolphins scored the opening two goals before the Saints fought back to level the scores at 3-3 all.

It was one-way traffic from that point on, but the Dolphins ended as convincing five-goal winners.

Nick Elphick scored three goals for the Saints with Drew Verboon and Jacob Jones nabbing two each.

It is an all-Melville battle in the men’s competition this Saturday when the Saints play the Sharks at Bicton Pool at 2.30pm.

The Marlins then face the Dolphins at Bicton Pool at 4pm.
