THE Melville Marlins picked up where they left off in the Water Polo WA Women’s Premier League, thumping Dolphins 29-8 in their first game since the Christmas break.
It was a dominant showing for the Marlins, with Rio Olympian Zoe Arancini scoring eight goals, Madeleine Quinn five and Kate Abbey-Wardale and Mercedes Ralph four apiece.
Melville is the only undefeated team in the competition and will square off with UWA City Beach Bears this Saturday at Bicton Pool.
Meanwhile, the National Water Polo League is two weeks into the 2017 season, with mixed results on the road so far for the Fremantle Mariners and Marlins.
Both teams took part in a six-day road trip to Sydney to open the season.
The Mariners men’s team beat the Drummoyne Devils twice to start the season on the road, but suffered losses at the hands of the Sydney University Lions twice, and the Cronulla Sharks.
The Marlins women’s team went 3-3 on their road trip, scoring wins over Drummoyne twice and the Cronulla Sharks once, while losing both games against Sydney Uni, and once against Cronulla.
