MELIVLLE needs its top order to fire against quality bowling opposition when it resumes its game against Subiaco-Floreat on Saturday.
The Lions were teetering at 6-157 before teenager Cameron Green and Western Warriors standout Jason Behrendorff compiled a 117-run seventh wicket partnership to power the hosts to 305.
Now Behrendorff, who is returning from injury, will spearhead a potent Subiaco-Floreat attack alongside the competition’s joint leading wicket taker Andrew Holder.
The Storm have rarely passed 300 this season but did achieve the feat two rounds ago against Mt Lawley.
That innings was anchored by an 87 from opener Luke Towers, but the rest of the heavy lifting was left to Matt Wiley, Ryan Duffield and Brad Tuner – who came in at six, seven and eight respectively.
Bolstering Melville’s chances is the presence of Australian international Adam Voges, who scored consecutive centuries for the Storm in December but has not turned out for the club since then.
