BOTH the Melville men’s and women’s teams had impressive winning afternoons in the Water Polo WA Premier League on Saturday.

Following the opening weekend bye, the Melville Marlins delivered a dominant 11-1 victory over Triton at Beatty Park.

It was a commanding performance by the defending champions, who kept Triton goalless in the opening half to lead 6-0 at the break.

Triton did break the drought early in the third quarter but from there Melville scored the final five times in the match for the 10-goal victory.

Young gun Sofie Pontre showed why she is one of Australia’s brightest stars, scoring three goals for the Marlins, with Lauren Martin also finding the net on two occasions.

Meanwhile in round eight men’s action, Melville Sharks defeated Dolphins 14-7 at Bicton Pool.

The victory keeps the Sharks on top of the standings in the men’s Premier League, having won five of seven matches to date.

They were in control of the match all afternoon, leading by two at quarter-time, six at half-time and seven by the final whistle.

Joel Swift continued his tremendous season, scoring five goals, with Peter Tomasevic not far behind on four and Jacob Jones contributing two.
