MORE than 170 promising juniors from all over WA battled it out at the Melville Future Stars Fast4 Tournament last week.

Melville-Palmyra Tennis Club hosted the competition and, in a sign of the strength of its junior program, was also the best represented club in the State.

Age groups started from eight and under and the 12s and 14s event were played for White Series Australian Ranking points.

The match of the tournament pitted 11-year-old Abbi Gibson of Albany against Nedlands 14-year-old Georgia Tovich.

Abbi entered the tournament as the number four seed despite the fact that most of her opponents were older and recovered from a shaky start to dispatch Georgia in three sets 2-4 4-2 4-3 under the modified Fast4 scoring system.

Tournament director Glen Popovsky said the tournament was a success despite the cold conditions and that it had featured a number of very promising junior players.
