MELVILLE’S hot start to the year continued with some elder statesman showing their class with the bat as the Storm posted 326 against Mount Lawley at Breckler Park on Saturday.
After a lean run with the bat, opener Luke Towers rebounded to compile 87 while bowler turned all-rounder Ryan Duffield scored his third consecutive half-century.
Matt Wiley made 43 to propel his side past 300 as Mount Lawley’s bowlers struggled for regular breakthroughs.
Callum Taylor (4-54) and Mohamed Ijaz (4-122) were the standouts with the ball as the rest of the Hawks attack struggled on a flat wicket.
Melville still has its work cut out for it on a good batting pitch but could vault back in to the finals conversation with a win.
The teams resume play on Saturday.
