The Premier League took a two-week hiatus, returning January 9. The women’s league-leaders lost for just the second time this season when the City Beach Bears prevailed over the Marlins 7-5 at HBF Stadium.

It was two goals to one in favour of the Marlins in the third quarter to see the contest tied at 5-5 heading into the fourth period but in the last it was the Bears who scored the only two goals to end up winning 7-5.

Sofia Chaves scored twice for the Marlins who remain on top of the women’s standings despite the loss with a 9-2 record to be three games clear of the second placed North Coast Phoenix who are 6-5 with one draw.
