VETERAN Drew Porter guided Melville to victory in the final over against Bayswater-Morley in Premier Cricket round 11 on Saturday.
The Storm moved up to eighth and increased the pressure on the top six with the two-wicket win at Hillcrest Oval.
The Bears batted first and amassed 8-207 from their 50 overs – thanks largely to a resolute 81 from opener Rhys Hampson, who spent more than two hours at the crease.
Blake Reed (3-29) was the pick of the Melville bowlers, while captain Tom Scollay claimed the scalp of Hampson to finish with a tidy 1-40 off his 10 overs.
Melville was confident entering the run chase but lost Angus Robson (5) and Scollay (10) cheaply.
Luke Towers (56) scored a patient half-century but wickets fell at regular intervals to ensure the match remained in the balance all the way until the final over.
