TWO sisters are bringing a new form of netball to Melville.

After starting walking netball sessions at the State Netball Centre in December 2018, the modified version of the game will make its debut at Melville LeisureFit on Thursday, February 6.

Walking netball is a form of the game without running or jumping and is designed for people who are returning from injury or think they are too old for the traditional rules.

Erica said she discovered it through family after a trip to Scotland, where the sport is played.

“At first I was laughing, it seemed ridiculous but then when I got back to Australia I thought ‘actually that is a good idea’ and so we started running sessions,” she said.

For Angela, the concept gave her a way to play netball for the first time in 20 years after a knee reconstruction stopped her career short.

“It’s less competitive and more about having fun and keeping fit while allowing people to get back to the sport,” she said.

Erica said after starting sessions at the State Netball Centre and Craigie Leisure Centre, Melville was chosen to be the first south-of-the-river location because it was centrally located.

“We are hoping people from Fremantle out to Canning come and join us,” she said.
