TWO late goals condemned Murdoch University Melville (MUM) FC to their second straight league loss as they fell 3-2 to Balga SC at Murdoch University.
Despite trailing at half time, the hosts scored twice early after the break to take the lead, only to concede a further two to the fast-finishing Balga.
The loss meant MUM FC slipped to seventh on the ladder, six points off fourth-placed Balga, with three games in hand.
The visitors started strongly and created most of the clear-cut chances in the first half before taking the lead when Nahom Michael’s shot was parried into the path of Kris Spaseski, who headed home from close-range.
Alec Radonich made two strong saves to keep MUM FC in the game at half-time and ensure Balga only went into the break with a one-goal lead.
It was the home side who started stronger in the second half and were rewarded when Dean Thurston’s shot was spilled into the path of Declan Tanna and the debutant fired home from close range.
Five minutes later and MUM FC took the lead when Tanna’s curled cross was not dealt with and Matt Sljivic bundled home.
Balga went on the attack and thought they’d equalised, only to be denied by the linesman after a neat one-two on the edge of the box.
Minutes later, a nicely worked free-kick freed up Vinnie Luongo and his cutback was met by Michael, whose powerful shot left Radonich with little chance.
Balga sealed all the three points soon after when Michael cut inside and fired past Radonich with just over ten minutes to play.
Earlier, MUM FC’s Reserves beat their Balga counterparts 4-1 thanks to goals from Simon El Chami (two), Thando Dube and Liam Goerke, while the Under-18’s won 5-3.
