SOUTH of Perth Yacht Club sailors Patrick Vos and Niall Morrow helped Redline Racing to secure third place at the World Match Racing Tour Final in Sweden last week.

Joined by compatriots Matt Jerwood and Alex Landwehr from the Fremantle Sailing Club, the quartet beat world champions and Olympic sailors in the elimination rounds to set up a semi-final with Robertson Racing, where their dream run came to an end.

“We just couldn’t quite pull the starts together and went down 3-0,” captain Jerwood said.

Redline Racing then squared off with Petit Final to determine third and fourth place overall.

“We headed into the race for third pumped and ready to put our name on the podium,” Jerwood said.

“We came out swinging, we fought hard, and we sailed fast. Fortunately for us we were faster than our opponent Chris Steele beating him 2-0.”

It was an impressive result for a team with an average age of 22 and nets the four men just under $24,000 in prize money.

The overall winners, Robertson Racing, banked US $33,000 for winning in Sweden plus a World Champion’s bonus of $1 million; the largest prize money ever awarded in the sport of sailing.
