Talented teens ready to tee off

The Royal Fremantle Golf Club members and are in the six-player women’s and eight-player men’s State teams, with the women playing for the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup.

The round robin format women’s event will be held at the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club while the men’s event will be held at the Federal Golf Club, both in the ACT, until May 2.

According to www.golf.org.au, the Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches for the Gladys Hay trophy is Australia’s premier women’s amateur team golf championship.

The first interstate match was played in 1897, then 1906 to 1939 and from 1947. In 1933 the series became the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup in honour of Miss Hay to perpetuate her contribution to the game as an administrator (foundation member of the ALGU and council member 1921-23) and player (Australian champion 1922).

Minjee was in the WA team that won the 2012 title in South Australia.
