Times Sport Preview: Melville City Hockey Club ready for rare finals foray; Melville City Football Club looks to end season on high

Melville City Hockey Club

Melville City returns to finals for just the second time in its 60-year history when it squares off with Wesley and South Perth at the Perth Hockey Stadium tomorrow.

WASPS finished the season one spot above Melville in second on the ladder with only two losses for the year, although one of those came against City back in round 16 at the same venue as this weekend’s final.

The other clash between these sides ended in a 2-2 draw and Melville will enter Saturday’s fixture buoyed by the fact it has won 12 of its last 15 games.

Finishing third on the ladder means Melville has a double chance in finals and will play again on Wednesday regardless of the weekend’s result.

The penultimate round of the State League Division 2 seasons sees Melville City travels to Kelmscott where it will look to avenge a 1-0 home loss to the Roos earlier this year.

Louie Granich’s season looks to be over after he injured a hamstring against Fremantle, but Simon El Chami and Shane Boyle could both return to replace him up front.

With a top four finish still on the cards Melville has plenty to play for and will be hoping to finish the season on a high.
