The win was secured by the Redbacks in the third term when they produced a strong defensive effort to hold the Tigers to 14 while amassing 30.

Towering centre Justin Brown, at 213cm, scored 23, brought down 17 rebounds and made four assists.

Power forward Michael Vigor scored 27 and had 12 rebounds and five assists.

Point guard Joel Wagner scored 15 and had five assists and three steals, while shooting guard Adam Johnston had 14 and three assists.

In a tough encounter where the lead changed 10 times, the Redbacks women’s team lost their first game of the year against the Tigers 50-60.

Centre Marita Payne was the Redbacks’ top scorer with 19, while bringing down 10 rebounds and making three assists.

Point-guard Rachel Lisch scored eight and had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Forward Jess Jakens had seven points, three rebounds and two assists, while point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan scored six.

On Saturday, the Redbacks play the Wanneroo Wolves at home at the Belmont Oasis Leisure and Aquatic Centre. Tip-off for the women’s game is at 6pm and 8pm for the men’s game.
