The 13-year-old first started developing his running skills and style at Melville Roar Athletics Club in the under 8s division.

Five years on and the Year 8 Kennedy Baptist College student claimed gold in the under 15s 1500-metre race at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships held in Sydney in March.

Shaw said winning first place was his greatest achievement to date.

He also picked up fourth place in the 800-metre event while in Sydney.

Coached by Lenny Hughes, Shaw has a long list of achievements.

He has represented the state five times - he has competed at two national cross-country championships and three national track and field championships.

During the 2014-15 winter and summer athletic season, Shaw gained sixth place in the Australian All Schools under-14s cross country held in Albany.

He also pocketed third place in the 800-metres and fourth place in the 1500-metres in the Australian All Schools under-14s track and field championships held in Adelaide in December, 2014.

Shaw said he was working towards qualifying for World Juniors in cross-country and middle distance running events.

"I enjoy competing in races at local, state and national levels and the friendships I have made locally and interstate," he said.
