APPLECROSS continued its impressive start to the women’s Premier League water polo season on Saturday while the South Fremantle Bloods remain undefeated in men’s action.
The two women’s contests at Bicton Pool in round 3 saw Applecross again impress, beating Dolphins 18-4.
Melville Marlins played out another draw, this time 7-7 against North Coast Phoenix.
It was a dominant performance from Applecross who improved to 2-1 with Lara Zimmerman scoring four goals, Kate Abbey-Wardale three, Sarah Leavy three and Gabby French three.
It was then a thriller between the Marlins and Phoenix.
Melville led 7-5 with seven minutes remaining but North Coast scored the last two goals in the final two minutes to secure the draw.
Erin Redbond and Chloe Nella scored two goals each for the Marlins while Claire Pierce scored three times for the Phoenix.
In the men’s action, also at Bicton Pool, Melville Sharks beat Port Colts 8-5.
The Sharks rebounded from a loss to the Bloods to beat the winless Port Colts with Joel Swift scoring three goals, James Fannon two and Nick Redbond two.
Meanwhile, the Bloods won their third straight game to start the season against the now 1-2 Dolphins.
Michael Brown and Will McKay scored twice each for South Fremantle.
This Saturday will the first cross conference round of the 2017-18 season as the Fremantle-based teams take on UWA’s.
In the women’s competition, Melville Marlins plays Triton and Applecross takes on UWA City Beach Blues at Bicton Pool.
Rangers and Dolphins do battle at Bicton Pool from 1pm.
In the men’s action, Rangers plays South Fremantle Bloods and Triton takes on Dolphins at HBF Stadium.
Port Colts takes on City Beach at HBF Stadium and Melville Sharks face Flotsam.
