MELVILLE will be chasing 304 for victory when it resumes its round six Premier Cricket clash with Fremantle tomorrow morning.
The Storm have had a week to digest allowing Fremantle to escape from 6-135 and must now turn in the best batting performance of their season to date or face falling further into a hole near the bottom of the ladder.
Fremantle’s total was built around a Tom Abell century but most of his support came from the tail after Mark Turner and Ryan Duffield ripped through the top order.
Fraser Hay is the only Melville batsmen to post a hundred so far this season and the Storm will expect a meaningful contribution from openers Angus Robson and Luke Towers who are yet to find their groove with averages of 38.7 and 15.8 respectively.
With a pair of scores in the high 40s, Tom Scollay has been better and Drew Porter posted an impressive 67 last time out against Joondalup.
Statistically, Fremantle boasts three of Premier Cricket’s top 23 bowlers in Benjamin Moore, Joel Croswell and Chris Chellew who have shared the load with 23 wickets between them this season.
Play resumes 11.40am at Stevens Reserve.
