Water Polo: Melville men and women dominate

Chris PikeMelville Gazette

MELVILLE again dominated the Water Polo WA Premier League with both the Marlins and Sharks consolidating their spots on top of the standings.

The Melville Marlins were playing just their second game following an opening round bye and made quite the statement, beating the Dolphins 24-2 at Bicton Pool.

It was as dominant a performance as you are likely to see in the sport with the defending champions showing off their enormous array of firepower to score the first five and last 10 goals of the contest.

Lauren Martin led the way with four goals while Kate Wardale and Olympians Zoe Arancini and Glencore McGhie had three each.

The Sharks then hosted Triton at Bicton Pool and were also impressive, winning 11-7.

It was a tight contest most of the game with scores tied 4-4 at half time but Melville scored four goals to one in the third quarter to set up the win.

Joel Swift scored four times for the Sharks and Peter Tomasevic had a hat trick.

This weekend the Sharks take on UWA City Beach while the Marlins play the Bears.
