MELVILLE had a mixed weekend in the Water Polo Premier League with the women’s Marlins continuing their dominant start to the season but the men’s Sharks outclassed.
Both Melville teams were up against UWA City Beach Bears, the action beginning with the men’s contest where the Bears prevailed 8-3.
UWA set up a 7-1 lead less than two minutes into the second period and held on from there.
Joel Swift continued his strong season with two more goals while Will Mackay was also impressive despite not scoring.
In the end, the goalkeeping of Luke Quinlivan for UWA City Beach was too much for the Sharks to overcome.
The Sharks remain on top of the standings with a 6-3 record despite the loss but things are tightening up with Dolphins 5-5 after beating Triton 10-5 on Saturday.
The Bears are also emerging as a real threat improving to a 5-4 record.
In the women’s clash, it was Melville who started strongly scoring the game’s opening five goals to set up an eventual 13-5 win over the Bears.
The Marlins remain unbeaten this season with Zoe Arancini scoring five goals, Lauren Martin three and Chloe Nella two.
Melville remains the only unbeaten women’s side this season after handing UWA City Beach its first defeat.
