MELVILLE Marlins joined Applecross on top of the Fremantle conference of Water Polo WA women’s Premier League with an impressive win at Bicton Pool on Saturday, while South Fremantle Bloods and Port Colts continued their impressive men’s form.
The women’s contests saw North Coast Phoenix beat Dolphins 9-4 and Melville Marlins defeat Applecross 11-8.
The Phoenix beat the winless Dolphins by five goals for their second win of the season.
Gemma Hadley drilled five goals for North Coast while Nicole Wallace scored twice for Dolphins.
Meanwhile, the Marlins joined Applecross with four wins from six games this season with their three-goal triumph.
Erin Redbond was the star for the Marlins with five goals with Pia Rodgers, Chloe Nella and Luci Marsh all adding two each; Kate Abbey-Wardale, Lara Zimmerman and Kelly Parks scored twice each for Applecross.
The men’s action also at Bicton Pool saw South Fremantle Bloods beat Melville Sharks 17-9 and Port Colts continued their improved form defeating Dolphins 11-8.
The Bloods bounced back from their opening loss of the season last week to Port Colts to remain atop the Fremantle conference with the eight-goal win over a Sharks team missing some key players, including Rio Olympian Joel Swift.
Will McKay scored four goals for the Bloods, Nick O’Halloran three, Michael Brown three, Alex Gunnell two, Alex Lee two and Nick Elphick two; Nick Redbond scored three times for the Sharks, Jordan Lake two and Jack Marshall two.
Port Colts have now won three straight games and Saturday’s three-goal victory over the bottom-placed Dolphins saw Luca Altieri star with goals for the Port Colts; Tom Beare also scored four times for Dolphins.
