SOUTH Fremantle Bloods and Melville Marlins won impressively in round 9 of the Water Polo WA Premier League but North Coast Phoenix’s women also made a strong statement.

The women’s action at Bicton Pool saw Melville Marlins record an emphatic 20-0 victory over Dolphins while North Coast Phoenix beat Applecross 9-7.

The Marlins maintained top position in the Fremantle conference with their thumping of the winless Dolphins.

It was a dominant effort by Melville with Erin Redbond scoring five goals, Mercedes Ralph four, Chloe Nella three and Madeleine Quinn three.

The battle for second position remains fascinating following North Coast’s two-goal win over Applecross.

Both teams have won three games, drawn one and lost three.

Gemma Hadley and Claire Rechichi scored three goals each for the Phoenix with Sofia Chaves and Kate Abbey-Wardale scoring twice each for Applecross.

In the men’s contests, South Fremantle Bloods further consolidated top spot beating Port Colts 12-8, with Dolphins defeating Melville Sharks 6-5.

The Bloods improved to a 6-1 record in the Fremantle conference after the win over the in-form Colts, who now sit on a 3-4 record alongside the Sharks.

South Fremantle’s win was on the back of six goals from Nick Elphick and two each from Michael Brown, Petar Tomasevic and Nick O’Halloran.

Tom Prior scored four goals for the Colts and Davis Verboon three.

Dolphins kept their season alive winning a second game of the campaign with the one-goal victory against Melville.

Tibor Seress and Tom Beare scored twice each while Joel Swift nailed two goals for the Sharks.

The final round before the Christmas break will take place this Saturday at Bicton Pool.

The women’s action sees Applecross play Melville Marlins and Dolphins take on North Coast Phoenix.

In the men’s, South Fremantle Bloods will battle Melville Sharks and Dolphins will play the Colts.
