The Formula One champion was signing copies of his new book Aussie Grit: A tale of an Australian legend at Garden City in Booragoon on Monday, July 13.

Hundreds of people turned out, some wearing the signature Red Bull racing outfit Webber wore during his F1 victory in Germany in 2009.

The former pizza delivery boy turned Aussie success story said he was blown away by the response from the huge crowd, some of whom queued for hours waiting for a glimpse of their hero.

"It's just amazing. I didn't think so many people would turn up; it's gone very well," he said.

Webber was quizzed by fans about his retirement and what he is up to now and if there were plans to come out of retirement and enter the F1 game again.

"I am currently doing some selection races for Porsche," Webber said.

"I am turning 40 next year and it's (F1) a young man's sport, so I got out at the right time; I got the decision absolutely perfect."
