Locals flock to try tasty treats

The pair took over The Village Deli on Hawtin Road, Forrestfield, about three months ago and word of mouth has seen residents flock in to try the couple’s pastry delights.

It was the couple’s love of meat pies that drew them into the deli business and the tasty treats have proven to be a big attraction.

‘We ran the Dongara BP for eight years and my wife made pies from her own recipes and they were a hit,’ Mr Cooper said.

He said the Hawtin Road deli was a two-minute walk from his house and he was delighted when he saw a sign in the window saying it was for sale.

‘I said to my wife, ‘let’s have a go’,’ he said.

Mr Cooper said people come for miles for their pies and leave with dozens.

‘Two weeks ago, someone took 30 pies for a party,’ he said.

‘Another guy took a dozen with him to Busselton.

‘The same kind of thing happened when we had the shop in Dongara.’
