Midland shop a treasure trove for keen secondhand fossickers

Sally McGlewMidland Kalamunda Reporter

Simply Secondhand in Midland is one of many shops offering locals a different shopping experience.

Elenie White and husband Amos, with his extensive record collection, are hoping to attract more shoppers to the area, which is vibrant and ever-changing.

“Midland is one of the few suburbs which attracts people who like to fossick for old things and we have a lot of the stock that attracts fossicking on the premises,” Mrs White said.

The disappearing art of preparing, stuffing and mounting animals is now enjoying a revival and Simply Secondhand in Midland has become the largest seller of taxidermy animals in Perth.

A go-to destination for garage paraphernalia and records – and soon to acquire a wolverine and a whole sheep – the shop has attracted all sorts of collectors to explore their extensive displays.

“The reaction has been good. Obviously there have been a few people who have come in and been disgusted, but they get over it pretty quick,” Mrs White said.

“They are all secondhand and have been ethically acquired from for-sale collections.”
