Forrestfield bogan genius Brett Blake set to return to Fringe this month

BORN and bred Forrestfield comedian Brett Blake is heading back to Fringe World with his new stand up show Bogan Genius that explores his struggles in school.

Blake said ADHD and dyslexia meant he spent most of his time at school either suspended or throwing erasers into ceiling fans and most of his teachers wrote him off as a no-hoper.

After representing himself in court and winning seven times, Blake figured he wasn’t as much of a lost cause as his teachers thought, so he created a show based on his struggles.

“It’s a really unique, funny and educational show that parents and teachers need to watch,” he said.

“I was written off as an idiot until they made me do an IQ test and I was two points off being a genius.

“My school was quite rough and my show looks at what it is like growing up in the 90s in that environment with two learning disorders.

“I was labelled as a troublemaker and spent a whole term with my desk outside because I was so disruptive.”

Now based in Melbourne, Blake tours across the country and overseas.

Bogan Genius is showing January 18 to 20 at The Shoe Bar at Yagan Square.
