COMMUNITY groups and stakeholders will be able to have a beer in the Guildford Hotel to celebrate the end of the year.

A public information session held last night announced the hotel would be open by December 30, 2015 and the redevelopment was now well underway.

The Publican Group Australia entered into a lease agreement in June 2014 with the Guildford Hotel to re-build the iconic watering hole back to its former glory.

Feedback on the proposals for the final building and restoration works were heard at the community meeting.

Director of The Publican Group, Steve Garcia said his team was working hard to preserve as many of the key features in the building as possible.

The focus for the last few weeks has been restoring the brickwork, skirting boards, architraves, old renders and beams. This process has enabled the commencement of the roof installation.

The site clean up has been a really interesting process, we have discovered many amazing features along the way. For example, we peeled back a few layers on the ground level and found a hidden terrazzo floor.

"We also found an old cellar which we are going to cover with glass and highlight it as a feature in the bar."

Mr Garcia said as well as maintaining the hotel’s history the group felt it was important to modernise the space to attract new markets to the Guildford area.

"We are still working through conceptual plans at this stage, as we are hoping to take on feedback from the community as to what they want to see in the space," Mr Garcia said.
