Body found in burnt out car next to oval

POLICE are investigating after a body was found in a burnt out car at Hartfield Park in Forrestfield.

The body is believed to be that of a man in his 70s although formal identification has yet to be completed.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was called just after 7am on Sunday to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters notified police after finding a deceased person in the vehicle.

Witnesses said police had cordoned off the area with many kids heading to the recreation centre for the start of the winter sports season.

Acting Sergeant Mick Slaughter confirmed that DFES attended a vehicle fire near the intersection of Hale and Reynolds Roads in Forrestfield.

“Once the fire was extinguished a deceased person was located inside the vehicle,” he said.

“Midland Detectives attended the scene and were assisted by the Arson Squad.

“The deceased is believed to be a man aged in his 70’s. Formal identification has yet to be completed.

“The death has been determined as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
