PETITIONERS for a skate park in Midland have got their way.

Swan Council resolved earlier this month to set aside $850,000 for a facility in Gray Drive, Midvale, after a petition was lodged at a special electors meeting earlier this year.

The council decided to start planning for the site at lot 300 after rejecting a council officer’s recommendation to hold off until the City’s open space and community building strategy for Midland was finalised.

The council asked its chief executive to find funds to enable design to be completed this financial year ahead of building starting in mid-2019.

The City will also initiate workshops with the petitioners and interested stakeholders as part of the design process.

Councillors noted the skate park was required to meet the needs of the community.
