City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the calendar would showcase a region rich in diversity, food culture and passion.

“We are the largest local government in the Perth metropolitan area, with over 145,000 residents,” he said.

“Over 32,000 of our residents are born overseas and they bring with them stories, traditions and ideas from all over the world.

“With all of this in mind, there’s no doubt there are plenty of unique food stories to be shared.”

Midland/Guildford Ward councillor Mark Elliott said the competition was open to all City residents, students and businesses.

“To enter, select your special family recipe and write a short explanation of how the dish reflects your family history and culture,” he said.

“It might be a recipe that has been passed down from family members through many generations, or perhaps it is a legendary dish that is synonymous with your business.”

The Community Calendar will be distributed to all City residents in late 2017.
