Community centre damaged in bushfire

ARSON Squad detectives are seeking information over a bushfire that damaged the New Life Centre on the border of Bellevue and Koongamia yesterday afternoon.

About 3:30pm police attended the bushfire which appears to have started in bushland near Clayton View Primary School in Koongamia.

The fire spread and caused damage the nearby community building on Clayton Street in Bellevue.

Several people had to be evacuated from the community building.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

Arson Squad detectives attended the scene of the fire this morning to investigate the cause of the fire.

Detectives believe the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
