PLANS to redevelop Midland Oval will go ahead after the City of Swan Council voted to approve the project’s master plan at a special meeting on Monday night.

City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the decision meant the project could finally move forward.

“The Midland Oval redevelopment has been in the pipeline for more than 30 years, so a decision either way was vital,” he said.

“By moving ahead with this master plan we are not only ensuring the project remains viable but that the community gets the full benefits of the redevelopment.”

North Ward councillor Kevin Bailey said the city and the council had conducted comprehensive public consultation over a number of years, which was reflected in the revised plan.

“Council listened to the community and as a result the master plan now included more public open space,” he said.

“The city and council will continue to work to ensure this redevelopment delivers a new heart for Midland.”
