Mr Mullins suffered an infection in his aortic valve last October.
He recently returned home from hospital after a three-month stay and said he and Beryl are now planning another trip to Darwin.
The pair have already travelled around Australia nine times in their camper- van.
Mr Mullins worked at Perth Airport for most of his life in the fire tender service.
Mr Mullins has not always lived in Forrestfield and said he wishes the public transport was more efficient.
He said Beryl made the five hour round trip on public transport to visit him in Swan District Hospital for a 45 minute visit while he was recuperating after his operation.
‘She came every day except Sunday when the buses were not as regular,’ he said.
‘It would have been more than five hours so she couldn’t do it.
‘She has been amazing,’ he said.
‘I can’t thank her enough.’
