Dangerous Mundaring Weir Road set for improvement

Sarah BrookesMidland Kalamunda Reporter

A DANGEROUS, windy stretch of road in the Hills will be upgraded with more than $1.4 million in State Government funding awarded for staged shoulder upgrades along Mundaring Weir Road.

A further $800,000 is being funded by the City to upgrade the stretch of road between Fern Road and the City of Kalamunda’s boundary with Mundaring.

The works are funded as part of the State Government’s Black Spot program and involve widening road shoulders between 600mm and 1.2m.

The funding includes vegetation removal, which is necessary to ensure safe clearance between the road and tree line.

Mayor John Giardina said there had been too many hit object crashes along the road due to the proximity of vegetation as well as the hilly and winding terrain.

“We want to ensure that steps are taken to make this stretch of road as safe as possible for our community,” he said.

“There will be traffic management on site and short delays whilst works are taking place, but no full road closures will be undertaken.”

Council will consider the tender award later this year, with works expected to take just under six months to complete, weather permitting.
