Farewell to a jewel in the crown

The Lesmurdie residents, who bought Adina Jewellers in 1987, have decided it is time to retire and take a long overdue and much-needed holiday.

Mrs Wenaden said it was one of the toughest decisions the couple had made.

‘It was not easy to decide to stop running the business,’ she said.

‘We considered selling but it is such a tough time for businesses at the moment and it would have been hard to sell.’

She said there were countless fond memories from the past quarter of a century and many customers were now more like family.

‘We had many customers come here for 26 years and we watched their kids grow up,’ she said.

‘Customers would come here for their jewellery with their children, who would grow up and come here for their wedding jewellery.’

As soon as the doors close for the final time on June 30, the couple plan to take a long trip overseas.

‘It has been hard to take a break in the past 26 years,’ Mrs Wenaden said.
