Finger pointing follows closure

The partly restored, historic Centuria Hotel reopened on October 31 last year. However, a statement posted on social media on Wednesday said it had closed.

Leaseholder and manager Frank Cicchini had so far spent $500,000 restoring the old pub, located on the corner of Great Eastern Highway and Helena Street.

The corner pub has operated under four different names in the past seven years.

On social media, hotel management apologised to patrons for any inconvenience.

"We wish you all the best in finding an alternative venue," said the statement, before going on to blame red tape at the City of Swan, Metropolitan Regional Authority and financial institutions for causing hardship to the business owners.

Last year, Mr Cicchini told the Reporter he planned to spend more than $1 million on the 1896 building.

"Midland is a new challenge. It's not the same place it was and a lot of good development is happening around the area," he said.

The Reporter tried to contact Mr Cicchini and the hotel's bar manager but without response.
