Giving blood a sweet deal for biscuit lovers

A high number of regular donors have cancelled their appointments due to a late peak in the cold and flu season.

On average, up to 28 per cent of donors will continue to cancel because of cold and flu symptoms.

The Australian Red Cross is urging locals to "crumb on down" to the Midland Centre and donate.

Blood Service spokeswoman Jessica Willet said giving blood takes just one hour and donors are rewarded with Australia's best biscuit and a cup of tea afterwards.

"We believe it's the best biscuit because it's the only one that saves lives," she said.

"Right now, we still need 100 biscuit-loving donors to roll up their sleeves and help us overcome this cold and flu problem."

Every donation helps save three lives, including cancer patients, road trauma victims, people with blood disorders, unborn babies and mothers during childbirth.

Ms Willet said the Midland Blood Donor Centre offered a comfortable experience and free Wi-Fi.

One in 30 Australians donates blood, but one in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime.
