THE Guildford Association is encouraging parents to take their children around the Guildford Anzacs poppy walk trail during the school holidays from now until April 29.
The trail, a part of the Guildford Anzacs project, displays brass and enamel poppy plaques outside homes of the men and women working, living, studying or worshipping in the town of Guildford and who served during World War I.
The project identified more than 700 serving men and women from Guildford, many of the soldiers’ names appearing on the town’s honour rolls and war memorials.

READ NOWAssociation president Barbara Dundas said children enjoyed spotting the poppy plaques throughout historic Guildford.
“Families can start from any point in the town and follow the poppy plaque trail, learning about the fate of the soldiers who once lived in them via the Guildford Anzacs website through their smart phones,” Mrs Dundas said.
“Through the website children can also explore the regiments, ships or schools and churches that these men were associated with.
“Over 1000 photos give further depth to the social histories.”
About 100 residences and buildings have been identified in the area as being places where Anzacs grew up or left from to serve in WWI.
The Guildford Association will be distributing poppies at the Stirling Square Anzac Day commemorative service on April 25.
