WA OPERA is taking residents on a global trip into the fascinating world of opera and its dazzling stories, in true Oprah style, on Tuesday, March 14, at the High Wycombe Library.
WA Opera Education Officer Terasa Letizia said It’s Opera not Oprah! was part of the WA Opera’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
“The talk will be a very fun introduction to the world of opera from where it began, how it started, a presentation of some of our operatic works, and how the art-form made its way all the way from Florence here to Perth.
“When you see opera live it really captivates you.
“And there are no microphones or headsets, it all comes from the singers’ bodies.
“They’ve learnt how to use their whole body as a microphone, able to sing over a full orchestra.
“Opera stories have always reflected what was relevant to the people of the day, whether it was politics, love, comedy, death, drama. That’s why it’s survived, and continues to survive. It deals with human nature.”
The event will include music, giveaways and light refreshments.
