Police last week charged the man after investigating the assault of a seven-year-old boy in Padbury about 30 years ago.
Officers charged the Lesmurdie man with sexual assault, two counts of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and one count of indecently assaulting a child under 14.
Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett said police had to match the charges with those that would have been enforced in 1985.
