Kyle satisfies his need for speed

He broke the record at the Perth Motorplex recently to be acclaimed the second-fastest hard tail A/A altered drag car in the world.

‘I knew I was on a great run as soon as that green light came up,’ Putland said.

‘I took off straight away with a killer reaction time and the car was smoother than ever before.

‘As soon as I hit the end of the strip I could hear the crew celebrating.’

He said all he felt afterwards was immense relief.

‘I always knew it was capable, but to have finally achieved it was incredible.’

The car was built in a small shed in New Jersey by 11-time US National Hot Rod Association champion Bob Rossi.

‘The car weighs 790kg with 1350 horsepower, so it’s a light car with plenty of power and proven combinations from Bob’s own experience,’ he said.

Kyle’s dream of being the man behind Australia’s quickest aspirated car was more than three years in the making.

‘My inspiration was to achieve something not many other people outside the United States had done ” go fast with a naturally aspirated engine,’ he said.

He also said the car still had plenty to give.

‘We’ve taken it apart and sent the engine and some parts away for a rebuild and updates.

‘It has been a truly amazing season and we have much bigger and better things planned for next year,’ he said.
