LESMURDIE Girl Guides Tamzin Bowe (18), Krystal Adriano (17) and Brianna Grant (17) have earned the Queens Award for their achievements with the organisation.

Girl Guide leader Colleen Grant said the trio had worked hard to win the highest accolade in the system.

“The three young women have challenged themselves in both the gold endeavour and the interest and focus achievements,” Mrs Grant said.

“I am very pleased with what they have done in cookery, pottery and scrapbooking along with their outdoor leadership and art achievements.

“They also covered promise and law, guiding traditions, service, outdoors, world guiding, patrol system and leadership in the two parts of the awards, which can also be accredited towards the WA Certificate of Education (WACE).”

Mrs Grant said the girls were peer assessed, which could be confronting.

“It provides an opportunity for extraordinary personal development and greater self-awareness,” she said.

Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes was invited to a ceremony at their hall recognising their awards which have not been given to anyone in the Perth Hills for decades.

“This is the first time in 22 years that the time put in to achieve the Queens Award has been successful in the Kalamunda area,” he said.

Mr Hughes said Girl Guides offered youth a wonderful role model of leadership for later life.

“Involvement in Girl Guides grows compassion and citizenship,” he said.

“Caring for people and nature is central to their activities.”
