Lesmurdie supermarket makes donations to schools and community groups

SANDERSON Road IGA has donated $26,768.15 to local community groups and schools in the past four years.

Member for Hasluck, Ken Wyatt attended a ceremony to hand out the latest cheques to Lesmurdie Primary School, SES and the Suns Basketball Association.

Mr Wyatt said it was an amazing achievement by the local Sanderson Road IGA.

“What Sanderson Road IGA is doing in the local community should be highly commended,” Mr Wyatt said.

Local business owners Stephen and Karen Gurney have lived in Lesmurdie for 20 years and raised four children in the area.

They took over the Sanderson Road IGA four years ago.

“We have a ‘local only’ policy when it comes to donations and sponsorships,” Mr Gurney said.

“Local schools received the lion’s share of the donations via the ‘Shop for your School’ program, with one per cent of all school supporters’ shopper dockets put into the ballot boxes are returned to the schools as a cash donation.”

A total of $19,310 has been given directly to the following schools:

– Lesmurdie Primary School

– Mazenod

– Lesmurdie Senior High School

– Kalamunda Christian School

– Falls Road Primary School

– Walliston Primary School

– Pickering Brook Primary School

– Carmel Primary School

– Carmel Secondary College

– St Brigids

This year Sanderson Road IGA started sponsoring the Kalamunda Cougars Football Club with a donation of $2000 to help with the day-to-day running costs of the club.

Another local recipient Kalamunda Suns Basketball Association received a $450 donation to help with equipment and uniforms.

The local SES branch received $450, to bring their total to $1883.20, with the donation to go towards general equipment.

Sanderson Road IGA also sponsors a lot of local school and sporting club events with a total of $3575 donated to various school fetes, raffles, silent auctions, club jumpers/shirts and sports club events and promotions.
