Man charged over attack on paramedic

POLICE have charged a man in relation to the serious assault of a St John Ambulance paramedic in Midland early Saturday morning.

The paramedic was walking with a man into the entry of St John of God Hospital in Midland about 3am when it will be alleged he punched the paramedic to the side of his face. The paramedic fell to the ground unconscious and the assailant ran off.

Police attended a short time later and with the help of St John of God security located nearby and arrested a 28-year-old man from Midland.

The paramedic, aged in his 40s, received a broken jaw.

The man, who was charged with assaulting a public officer, remains in custody and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
