MAZENOD year 9 student and talented water-skier Cody McCreery finished eighth in the sub junior category at the Australian National Barefoot Competition in Adelaide last month.

His mum Lisa McCreey said as a result of the competition, Cody was selected in the Australian Junior Squad for the world championships in 2020.

“Finishing in the top 10 was a great achievement for Cody considering he is competing against kids who ski every day,” she said.

“The Australian Barefoot Association will now provide training, coaches and clinics over the next two years, as he strives for national selection.”

Cody, who is from Tammin, boards at Mazenod College in Lesmurdie.

Mrs McCreey said boarding allowed Cody to be closer to the training and coaches he needed to improve in his skiing.

At the recent Western Australian Water Ski Association Dinner, Cody won the State Barefoot, Sub Junior Boys Trophy and the Most Improved Trophy in the WA Barefoot Club.
