PICKERING Brook mechanic Danny Petrucci has blitzed the field, taking out first place in a pumpkin growing competition with his 184.4kg monster.

Mr Petrucci said this year’s pumpkin dwarfed his winning entry last year which weighed in at 98kg.

“I didn’t do anything different this year just water, fertiliser and hopes and dreams that I would beat my uncle,” he said.

And is a big pot of pumpkin soup on the menu?

Unfortunately not said Mr Petrucci.

“By the time it makes its way back from down south it will be rotten and we will have to throw it in the bin,” he said.

The 3rd Annual Pickering Brook and Surrounds Giant Pumpkin Growing Competition was held on March 30 at the Blue Moon Shed.
