MIDLAND Gate is set to undergo a $100 million expansion following an announcement by Vicinity Centres on behalf of the centre’s co-owners.

Midland Gate’s redevelopment will be unveiled in stages, with the full expansion to be completed in early 2019.

Vicinity Centres chief executive Angus McNaughton said it was a new era for Midland, with the fully enclosed single level centre to expand to 69,000sq m of gross lettable area and will include a new fresh food precinct, an expanded dining area and 215 retailers on completion.

“As a gateway for Perth’s eastern suburbs, our co-owners are investing in the Midland community as the centre neighbours the Swan growth corridor, with the local population predicted to increase by 24 per cent by 2025,” he said.

“This redevelopment project will deliver greater choice and convenience for our customers and will cement Midland Gate as the largest, local, everyday destination for the whole family in Perth’s east.”

Mr McNaughton said Aldi, JB Hi-Fi and Harris Scarfe have confirmed they will move into the expanded centre and 35 new specialty retailers will also open their doors.

Construction will commence this month with the redevelopment expected to create an estimated 965 jobs including

315 jobs through construction and 650 ongoing retail, hospitality and services roles at the completed centre.

The centre’s dining area will also be revitalised with the existing food court expanding while the Cale Street casual dining precinct will receive a makeover.
