Midland Gate shoppers to face parking squeeze as $100m expansion begins

SHOPPERS heading to Midland Gate will be forced to find somewhere else to park with large swathes of the carpark closed as the centre undergoes a $100 million expansion.

A Midland Gate spokeswoman said the centre currently offers customers more than 2,350 car spaces including undercover parking, disabled bays and parents with prams spaces close to centre entrances.

“With our $100 million expansion underway, Midland Gate is going through some changes and the eastern car park is currently unavailable,” she said.

“This is the carpark closest to the Kmart/Coles entry.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this carpark closure causes and with all other sections of our carpark remaining open Midland Gate still has ample carparks available for customers.

“The most convenient parking including undercover parking is still accessible off The Crescent and Great Eastern Highway.

“To ensure we have premium spots available during peak shopping times, Midland Gate introduced license plate recognition technology earlier this year.

“Customers of Midland Gate can continue to park free of charge for up to five hours.”

When the expansion is completed, the centre will be about 69,000sq m of gross lettable area and will include a new fresh food precinct, expanded dining and 215 retailers on completion.

The full expansion is expected to be complete in 2019.
