COUNCILLORS have rejected a motion to suspend work on the Midland Oval Redevelopment Masterplan, put forward by Councillor Ian Johnson at Wednesday night’s Swan Council meeting.
Cr Johnson asked councillors to support his motion that all works on the existing masterplan be suspended until a report could be completed and brought back to council at the August meeting.
The motion asked that council engage a firm of consultants to revise the Midland Oval Redevelopment Masterplan in consultation with the community; to keep the area of the Midland Oval outlined by the cycle track and extend it up to Morrison Road, retain Juniper Link and the Piazza and adopt the Midland Oval Redevelopment Masterplan scenario 3 – a business plan.

READ NOWThe motion followed the Tuesday night special electors meeting, which was attended by about 240 residents and ratepayers.
Cr Adam Kovalevs said councillors needed time to consider what was said at the special electors meeting and not rush a decision 24 hours later.
Mayor David Lucas said scenario 3 had not been considered by the WA Treasury Corporation and it would be inappropriate to vote the item.
The motion was lost.
