AS a staunch Hills dweller the idea of a new kid on the block offering speed dating in my own neck of the woods is an alluring concept.
Too often us tree-dwelling folk are seen by those north and south of the river as living in the sticks and are generally blind to the appealing charm of the east.
And to be honest we don’t tend to go ‘down the hill’ unless we have to.

READ NOWSo one Saturday night I found myself at the Mundaring Hotel ready to spend five minutes with 10 men at an event organised by the newly created NY Events presents Perth Hills Speed Dating.
While some topics should be left off the table, namely psycho exes, protracted Family Court battles and living with your mother, it seems not everyone got the memo.
While I met one intriguing gentleman, what delighted me the most was the convivial atmosphere after the event.
It was an opportunity to connect with men and women, all in the same boat casting a line out hoping to snag a decent catch.
It was one of those nights that where you think you’ll be in bed by 10pm and end up staying for a long chinwag, a few reds and then needing a lift home.
Thank god for the free courtesy bus at the Mundaring Hotel.
While I didn’t find what I was looking for my partner in crime for the evening did. And I’m happy to report things are going swimmingly for the pair.
Matchmaking duo Nicole Airay and Yvonne Fletcher, said they spotted a need for single, separated and divorced people to make new friends closer to home so together they launched Perth Hills Speed Dating.
And it certainly seems to be striking a chord in the region with their single events gaining popularity.
Their next event is at the Bayswater Hotel on Friday, February 23. They will host a singles sundowner at the Best Drop Tavern on Tuesday, February 27.
