The bird-like vegetable obviously wanted to resemble the local government area it grew in, but Mrs Taylor said she could not bring herself to eat it.

Mrs Taylor said she planted the sweet potato seeds last August and decided to dig them up because the runners were taking over her garden.

‘It’s so cute,’ she said.

Mrs Taylor said it was the first time in 30 years growing vegetables that she had grown one that looked like a bird.

She moved to Herne Hill in 1974 and worked in the Middle Swan hardware store for most of her working life.

She dropped into the Midland Reporter office on her way to bingo, but it looks like she’s already had her win for the week.
